Understanding SpeedyPage VPS Backups

Ensuring reliable data protection for mission-critical systems is essential, and SpeedyPage simplifies this process through server backups. Here's a comprehensive guide highlighting the key features and benefits of using backups for your SpeedyPage cloud servers.

Key Features

Stored Remotely: Your backups are securely stored at an off-site facility from your server instance.
Flexible Scheduling: You have the freedom to schedule backups to run daily, every other day, weekly, or monthly, depending on your specific needs. We support both on-demand and scheduled backups.
Customizable Timing: Choose the exact time of day and specific day of the week or month when backups are executed.
Full Server Restoration: Restores from backups involve the entire server file system and content; restoring individual files separately is not supported.

Availability

This offering is currently available in London & Amsterdam, it will soon also be expanded to the rest of our locations.

Pricing

Activating backups increases your instance's base cost by 20%. No hidden costs or fees.

Retention Period

We provide three retention points for your backups, enabling you to retain up to three versions at any given time. When a new backup is generated, the oldest version is automatically removed to maintain the retention limit.

Important Considerations

Backups capture a file system backup of your instance at the time it is run. This means if your instance has not been shut down prior to the backup, restoration would be similar to rebooting after an abrupt server restart.

While modern databases and file systems typically handle these situations well, additional precautions might be necessary if your system hosts highly active, write-intensive databases or similar software. For example, MySQL users are encouraged to use scheduled cron jobs to run mysqldump and save database dumps separately on the local file system, ensuring consistency of critical data prior to the instance backup being taken.

To help safeguard your data, SpeedyPage offers both manual and automated backup features. While these are designed to be reliable, it's important to understand that backups are complex technical processes. Issues like data corruption can occur, particularly if an instance isn't shut down beforehand. Therefore, SpeedyPage cannot guarantee that every backup will be complete or available for restoration, nor can we accept liability for data loss. Implementing your own independent backups is strongly advised.
